Do I need to have a jaw cyst removed?

Removal of the detected lesion is highly recommended. Leaving the cyst may even risk its malignancy, i.e. cancer. The procedure itself is painless, because it is performed under anesthesia. The type of anesthesia and the course of the procedure depend on the location of the lesion. After the cyst is removed (as after any surgical procedure), swelling around the wound may occur, and pain may also occur, which should be relieved by taking painkillers recommended by the doctor.
