Of all teeth, wisdom teeth (i.e. the last molars) are indeed the weakest. One of the reasons for this is that it is difficult for us to reach them during daily oral hygiene. Neglecting hygiene promotes the development of caries. Sometimes, it is impossible for a dentist to completely cure them due to difficult access, structural disorders (e.g. additional, curved roots). In such a case, these teeth should be removed. Indications for extraction also include: recurrent inflammation of the gums, accompanying the eruption of wisdom teeth, for which there is no space in the oral cavity, as well as the lack of an opposing tooth. Prophylactic removal of wisdom teeth without indications for extraction is not recommended. Like any surgical procedure, it is a last resort. Sometimes we also need wisdom teeth. They can be used, for example, for prosthetic reconstruction when neighboring teeth are missing. The procedure of removing wisdom teeth is performed under anesthesia. Pain may appear only later, during the healing of the wound (this will be the case, for example, when the position of the tooth was unfavorable and its removal was difficult).
